Noodle Journey Episode 105: Rap Snacks Icon Ramen Noodles

Notes since filming:

Another product line I’ve defended on occasion since this review. The packaging choices and the rapper endorsements on these for some reason makes people make a lot of assumptions about the flavors. I’ve seen posters on Reddit clutch their pearls and yell that this is the worst thing they’ve ever eaten. Bullshit hyperbole. These aren’t great, but they’re not bad either. There’s far worse out there that costs more than these.

These dollar store staples have some pretty divisive reviews online, but they have some extremely interesting ingredients and flavors that you may not know about. Today I’m reviewing all three varieties of Rap Snacks Icon Ramen Noodle cups: Creamy Chicken Gumbo by Master P, Beef Prime Rib by E-40, and Louisiana Hot & Spicy Chicken by Boosie.

Noodle Journey Episode 103: Pororo Cream Tteokbokki

Notes since filming:

In an unexpected twist, my kids ended up absolutely loving this variety after I filmed the review and I didn’t get to finish the cup myself. If you have kids, this might be a great way to introduce them to tteokbokki!

Noodle Journey Episode 102: Nissin Cup Noodles Black Pepper Crab

Original video description:

One of the more interesting products from Nissin’s Hong Kong Cup Noodles lineup, this popular Black Pepper Crab flavor promises a hearty combination of seafood umami and tingly aromatics. Could this be one of the best Cup Noodles out there?

Noodle Journey Episode 101: Nongshim Shin Green

Notes since filming:

I honestly regret not giving this a 9 as an overall score, but I really felt at the time that those fried tofu bits in this were pretty useless. I’ve come around on them a little bit the more I’ve eaten this one, and so for all intents and purposes, you can consider this flavor a 9/10 overall.

Original video description:

I was super excited to spot this one at my local Hmart. Like Shin Gold, this was a Kroger exclusive for a while. This is a spicy vegan mushroom tofu rendition of Shin Ramyun, and as a mushroom aficionado, I couldn’t wait to try this.

Also check your local Asian grocery store! Third party prices for this are insane as of the time of publication so I don’t recommend buying from Amazon Marketplace or Walmart just yet.

  • Noodles: 8/10

Noodle Journey Episode 100: Nongshim Shin Gold

Notes since filming:

I find myself defending Shin Gold frequently on Reddit from people who find it underwhelming. “It doesn’t taste like Shin Black!” “It’s just a spicy chicken broth!” etc. Both of those things are true, but neither fact makes Shin Gold a bad product. It’s a spicy, salty, thick chicken broth, and that is exactly what it is supposed to be and nothing more. It is, in my opinion, executed damned well. If you buy this expecting it to taste like something other than spicy chicken broth, that’s on you, not on the product. Personally, I’ve found that the only spicy chicken product that rivals this is Paldo Kokomen. I stand by this review and I still buy Shin Gold when I want chicken flavor.

Original video description:

Here we are at episode 100! Since this channel began at episode 1 with me extolling the virtues of Nongshim Shin and Shin Black, I felt like episode 100 should be a review of a new variety in the Shin line. This Shin Gold is a spicy chicken ramyun that’s sure to pique your curiosity if you haven’t tried it yet!
